Kunamokst Comes Home
On the weekend of June 19th and 20th, 2010, a special celebration was held to commemorate the Kunamokst mural’s return to Galiano Island.
His Honour Steven L. Point, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia and Lewis Lavoie of Mural Mosiac, the designer of the whale image that makes up the overall mural design, officially unveiled the mural.
The event was hosted at the Galiano Oceanfront Inn and Spa, where the mural will be on public display for the next two years, and was attended by many of the panel artists.
An art show and sale, featuring many of the artists that created mural panels, was held in conjunction with the opening.
Kunamokst is owned by the Galiano Mural Project Society, a non-profit society that has been established to support the arts and the arts community on Galiano Island. Founding Directors of the society Kenna Fair, Carol Guin, Conny Nordin, Sydney Massie and Diane Cragg were in attendance and were delighted by the large crowd that came to see the unveiling.
