When Oceanside painters Elissa Anthony and Faye St. Marie were chosen to participate in the Coastal Inspirations Project Mural Mosaic, neither knew what to expect until the unveiling during the 2010 Winter Olympics.Last fall, each participant received a 12-inch by 12-inch square panel. As is obvious to everyone by now, the Olympics are about much more than athletic competition — They’re a worldwide arts, sports and cultural celebration.
One visual arts project initiated on Galiano Island and involving some 200 coastal artists had its official unveiling as part of the Vancouver Olympic Games on Saturday, Feb. 13.
Kunamokst, the Coastal Inspirations Mural Mosaic project, was initiated by the people of Galiano Island and designed and orchestrated by the artists of Mural Mosaic — Lewis Lavoie, Phil Alain and Paul Lavoie. For the entire story, read the Driftwood article here
